For water / steam applications, an illuminator ismounted on the rear side of the gauge withits light rays deflected upward into the watercolumn. This enables the observer to see illuminated surface of thewater as the light raysimpinged onthe surface of separation between water and steam are reflected back to theeyeoftheobserver.

WORKINGPRINCIPLE

A part from glass tube level gauges, transparent levelgauges are always fitted with twoplatetransparent glasses between which the fluid is contained. The fluid level isindicatedas the result of thedifferent transparency of the two media and in some cases (for watersteam), by conveying upwards on to thesurface of separation (between liquid and gaseoussubstances) a source of light located at the back of the gauge,the rays of which are totallyreflecteddowntotheobserver.
